Blackfield - IV

I`ve been into Blackfield since Blackfield I &II. I am also a Steven Wilson/Porcupine Tree fan, and I do respect Aviv Geffen both as a songwriter and performer. But, with Blackfield IV, things are quite different. Most of the songs here- with the obvious exception of "Pills"- are lacklustre, uninspired tunes that somehow lost the brilliance this project used to have with the first two albums. It seems to me that Blackfield has become a one-man show (Aviv Geffen), excluding Steven Wilson from the whole project. I must say that before Blackfield IV was released in 2013, there was a warning sign that the Wilson-Geffen project was running out of ideas. That warning sign was Welcome to Mr DNA, which is not a bad album, but lacked the consistency and brillliance of Blackfield I and II. And there is a good explanation for this: Steven Wilson was very busy with other music projects, including Porcupine Tree, Storm Corrosion and his solo works. Geffen, on the other hand, has released several albums in his homeland Israel, but was less devoted to the Blackfield project. The same thing applies to Blackfield IV. Both Wilson and Geffen were rushed-up in the making of this album, not because the record label pressured them to release it ASAP, but because of their lack of time, inspiration and ideas.This album would have been better, if these guys would have had time to improve the lyrics and make it more inspiring, just like they did with Blackfield I & II. In short, this album has turned Wilson-Geffen project into a huge disappointment. So, don`t buy it, unless you want to complete your Blackfield collection.
